Thank You Chris – A Case Study of Sorts
It’s no secret I hold a rather pragmatic view of the world in general and business in partuclar. I believe it’s easier to maintain a client than to find a new one, a business relationship will be maintained as long as it generates empiric value for all parties, and actions speak louder than words. This was very much the initial foundation of my relationship with Mr. Chris McAleer, President and CEO of PeopleServe Asia Ltd.
PeoplServe Asia – A Website Design and Online Marketing Case Study
Chris and I first met abut 18 months ago on a referral from Mr. Shane Torr. Chris was looking to replace his website provider and Shane, who’d heard me give a presentation nearly a year before, thought Vimi might be able to provide service at the level Chris was looking for.
I remember the first briefing Chris gave me. He was friendly, firm, and very clear insofar as his expectations were concerned. I was quite excited about the opportunity to work for Chris and PeopleServe because they were very much our textbook customer – an Asian company providing a critical but far from glamorous service to huge household name multinational corporations.
After an exchange of a few emails we got the contract and proceeded to work with Chris and his team towards a launch of the new PeopleServe website around mid August of 2012. Subsequently to the website’s successful launch Chris awarded us the contract to handle his company’s online marketing. Our scope of responsibilities was defined as:
- Publishing and managing PeopleServe’s blog
- Publishing and managing PeopleServe’s newsletters
- Working to improve PeopleServe’s search engine rankings for key-phrases relevant to their industry
- Provision of ongoing consulting and support
This September marks a year since we started working with PeopleServe to improve their online marketing. We now have the unique opportunity to present a clear and documented case study of the actual return on investment delivered.
Search Engine Optimization –
18.3% #1 Rankings
Over the past year we have helped PeopleServe target over 60 key-phrases related to their industry:
- For all but 3.3% of the key phrases targeted we were able to show an improvement in rankings.
- For 46.6% of the key phrases we’ve generated a marked improvement in ranking of at least 10 or more positions, and into the top 20.
- For 18.3% of the selected key phrases PeopleServe now ranks #1.
Website Traffic –
192% Increase YOY
The improvement in rankings for relevant key phrases has triggered a massive 192% increase in inbound traffic over the past year, and while some of that increase could potentially be attributed to other sources, a deeper analysis of month over month stats shows a clear correlation between the increase in search traffic volume, and the general increase.
The Bottom Line –
50% Increase in Business YOY
One could (and should) ask: “Well how does all this translate into closed business and an increase for the bottom line?“. Chris has allowed us to quote him as saying he’s seen a 50% increase in business year over year.
I’m happy to report that we’re continuing to work with PeopleServe Asia this year, and have just recently been awarded the contract to build a new website for Chris’s recruitment business, PeopleSearch Asia Ltd.
Afterword – The REALLY Important Stuff
I started this post with a statement regarding my pragmatic perspectives. I’d like to wrap up and say that over the past year and a half I’ve had the pleasure of working with Chris, our relationship has evolved from one that was purely based on mutual business interests, into a solid friendship. Chris is a great guy and an outstanding friend who never hesitates to offer a helping hand.
It might be difficult to show the empiric return on investment this friendship has, but there’s only so much in life you can measure, and it’s usually not the most important bits anyway…
