Every Word You Are – Fun With Vanity!
One of things I love most about the particular professional and social environment I hail from, is it provides an amazing opportunity to experience incredible (and occasionally less incredible) technologies, a heartbeat before everybody else.
It’s a little like the privilege of having the best seats at the races, and it’s lots of fun!
What Words Describe YOU?
I had a reminder of just how much fun it can be when about a week ago Dan Peguine, a long time Facebook friend of mine (an interesting relationship definition in itself) unleashed upon an unsuspecting world his brainchild Everyword.me – a site that enables you to challenge your friends to describe you in a word.
Everyword has a really intuitive interface, and signup is with your existing Facebook or Twitter account so getting up and running takes literally 2-3 minutes.
The design is fun, if a little rough around the edges (hey, what did you look like when you were a week old?), and as mandated by the times there’s a fun social/game aspect that revolves around the idea of “Social Score” – basically a measure of how astute your observations about others are, based on how many people agree with your definitions.
The Morality of Vanity? Who Cares!
The site is already making waves in Israel, with pundits wasting ink (or rather keystrokes) in the local media weighing in on the moral implications of such a brazen appeal to people’s vanity, but this only serves to reinforce my gut feeling Dan is onto something:
In the words Andy Warhol, of one of vanity’s greatest champions in the 20th Century:
“I never read what they write about me in the papers,
I simply measure it in Inches”
I have a feeling that here in Thailand, where we’re less prone to self conscious guilt about being obsessed with our image, and more comfortable simply enjoying a little harmless vanity every now and again, Everyword.me has every chance of being a big hit.
Good luck Dan, and the rest of you – What are you still doing here?
Sign up and check out what people have to say about you!
